Habitat - Outdoor :: Turtle eats up any plants i put in the pond.

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

I have a problem with my 5yr old female RES eating all the plants that i buy for the pond.

so far ive gotten watter lettuce, water hyacinth, and anakaris. at the most, the plants only survive a week or so. but they all eventually die from my turtle nipping off random leaves constantly and messing up the roots.

is there anything i can do to deter my RES from doing this?

Nope. RES eat everything and those plants are very good for them. If you want the plants to grow, you'll have to put them somewhere the turtle can't get to, or in a separate tank entirely.

If its just one res you need to buy at least 10 large hycinths. They should grow faster then she can eat it.

Yes---you need to have enough plants so they keep spreading even though they're being nibbled on. You could also grow some in a separate tank and add some as needed.
