Not great pics but you get the idea. They will have a landing area to get down to the ground and plants in the water. The front will be covered by a wall and to the right is a 15'x 2.5' run for them as well that will be finished later.
I don't know yet what kind of plants I want to go with in the water. In ground I have herbs and strawberries (I figured two birds one stone, right?)
For water Umbrella palm and lettuce for sure, maybe dwarf bamboo. I'd love hyacinth but it's illegal to buy here. Maybe a tomato for the filter? Maybe lillies and bluebells, watercress, mint and creeping jenny? Any suggestions? I have my own microclimate here. Once the lattice is rehung and new 35% shade is up it stays pretty cool back there but is protected and warm enough in winter.
Oh and my best friend and I have decided we need to sponge paint the wall in cool blues and greens. Most of the exterior plants aren't going there. See how sick the Calla Lilly looks btw? I rescued it from my MIL.

Is that a 300 gallon rubbermaid? :D

Are you building a basking area in the tank or do they need to venture into the landing area?

Most freshwater aquatic plants will, there are some recommended here: www.redearslider.com/plants.html

Yup. It was about $250 at a horse place. My husband is building a landing area and I have a 20' basking island in the pond. I'll download the camera and add the new pics shortly (after Earth Hour). I have water!!!!
