Habitat - Outdoor :: Winter Dilema

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

I have a problem. Fall is setting in her in north Florida. I have both my turtle setups outside. Jaws & Speedy live in a 100 gallon pond. Across from them is Mr.T's 55 gallon tank. My dad doesn't want 400 watts of power being used for heaters for both setups. I have a 30 gallon tank that I have in the attic. Would it be ok for me to put Jaws & Speedy back in their old 55 gallon & move Mr.T into his old 30 gallon inside just for the winter? Thanks!

My setups can be viewed here: http://gallery.me.com/dylanbyrnes#100008

Mr.T is 2.5 inches, Speedy is five inches, and Jaws is 5.5 inches.

It is definitely doable, although call me crazy, but I think running lights and heaters and filters for two tanks isn't going to save on wattage. A 55 gallon tank requires a decent size heater alone. Plus, I'm not sure I understood your post, you're going from two set ups to two set ups? Are you buying new heaters for the smaller tank to downgrade on wattage? I'm not sure I see where the saving is.

That being said, if you do decide to do that set up make sure that you have a divider ready if speedy and jaws don't like their new close quarters.

I've never had fighting turtles, but I'd assume that if they started fighting in the 55g tank you couldn't put them back together in the pond either, so you are running that risk.

I guess I wasn't clear on my plan. I wanted to move Mr. T into a 30 gallon tank inside my room where it's heated. Jaws & Speedy would move from their 100 gallon pond to Mr.T's empty 55 gallon tank just for the winter.
