is there such a thing as too much water for small res
cuz my uncle wants to fill our aquarium like half way and build up a basking area but my mom puts water for them to cover the shell but if they raise their heads it is out of the water

Fill it up as much as you can without giving him room to escape. For hatchlings, it's a good idea to have a few resting spots just under the surface of the water so they can stop if they get tired.

Resting spots are good and make sure there are spots where they can't get trapped. Also make sure that filter isn't too strong for hatchlings... it might be able to trap them or push them around.
