Ok this is my third post tonight lol, but I have another seperate question. I'm considering buying a lamp stand for my UVB/UVA combo bulb so that I can have the bulb pointing straight down and easily adjust the distance, etc, plus there's no risk of it falling in. So here's my question:

When I do this, I want to raise the water level as high as possible. So I'm thinking of raising it to one or two inches from the top and adding a screen cover.The problem is, 1) I have a filter that hangs on the edge, and 2) I don't want him to be able to escape if I cut a hole for the light to get through. Is there any way to prevent his escape and get around the fitler if I use a screen on top?

I have seen people extend their tank height with plexiglass. It could serve well as a splash guard...which is something I will eventually have to do, because my big girl loves splashing water at me.

my breeding tank has a water fall filter and a screen top. The top has a hinge in the middle of it, and I just lay the back part down as far is it will go...which is almost all the way. It doesn't affect the water flow or anything else, it rests against the plastic at the back of the filter.

and if your worried of them pushing it just put a rock/book on the screen

thanks guys for the advice. Miss, can do you have a picture of the top of your tank so I can see it? I want to make sure it will work for me, because judging by your avatar, my turtle is much larger than yours are lol.

Oh, the screen is on my breeding tank...snails and guppies. My turts aren't that small anymore either. But, none the less, I can take some pics for ya. It's take me a little bit, but watch for them later this afternoon.

Ah, I get it now! you just rested the other half on top of the filter! I like that idea, I might try that, I'll try cutting out a hole for the UVB to get through and resting the other half on the filter. Thanks for the pics Miss!

If the top is cutable, then you can always cut out the section where the filter is as well. Just an afterthought. It's also more permanent.
