If doing a complete filter change and have new tubing go for it . Now if old tubing is already the size and you want to keep it I use a bottle brush to clean it. You do not want to get a restriction in the lines. Could build up over years and harm a pump. Restricting the flow , like old pipes in a home. You can take old style wire coat hanger to make it longer. If real long I blow with air fishing line all the way and tie the brush on and pull it into tubing. I use a bicycle pump for this. Also tie very small piece of cotton ball on end of fishing line gets it thru like a blow gun. The bottle brushes I found at a dollar store set of five. I clean all my tubing once a year. What little if any good bacteria in the lines will not compare to what's in your filter media. When doing a filter change keep your old bio media (rings , ball) that is where all that good bacteria is ! Ceramic type rings last forever. Foam filter pads if fit I use them to. When I need to replace foam I change one at a time until all are new...this way to me I keep good bacteria always going in the filter.
