Habitat - Indoor :: Zoo Med Canister Filter Problems

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I recently bought a Zoo Med 75 Canister Filter for my 2 RES. I did a lot of research and concluded that was the best one to buy. I spent about $100 but it was on sale

I am noticing though that it doesn't seem to pick up anything that is not water. The first time cleaning the tank after installing the filter I notice there is LOTS of fecal matter and general turtle debris collected at the bottom of the tank right under the intake tube and it is obvious that the filter is not sucking it up.

Also the outtake waterfall bar that puts the water back into the tank is completely lined with grime and muck. I am assuming that something is wrong because shouldn't the filter have filtered that out? It doesn't seem to be putting clean water back into the tank

And both the intake hose and outtake hose are also covered in that same grime. That's to be expected for the intake hose, but I think the outtake hose should be clear since it's supposed to be clean water coming out. Does anyone have tips for cleaning that out?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Zoo Med filters (and most or their products) are not worth their price. How much water is in your tank? How big are your turtles?

Most filters won't be able to pick up every piece of waste. More circulation will help, but there always be some waste to collect.
