Post Posted: Fri Nov 18, 2016 1:41 am   interesting question about odyssea cfs 500

Im interested in getting a cfs 500 was looking at the 700s but don't wanna spend that much but you can buy replacement pumps online so I was wondering if I could buy the cfs 500 and buy a cfs 700 replacement pump or bigger and use it on the 500 or would that exert too much force and cause stress fractures or other issues ? Just thought it was an interesting question . If not I'll probably eventually look into getting 2 cfs 500s for a 55 gallon . Any opinions would be great !!

The main site that makes/sell these appears down, so I cannot look into it BUT I would probably look into a different filter. I would definitely not do 2 CFS, you want to make things simpler and easier not the other way around. Do you have a 55 gallon now? How long until you want to upgrade the tank?

The turtles are still small both my res are maybe 3 inches and one I know is a male for sure the other I think might be a female and my dbt is still too little .. but I don't have money for an fx5 or 6 , I was looking at the Penn plax cascade 1500 too but liked that the cfs was 500 gph and with about 4 foot of head plus media I'll probably get a about 500 gph between 2 of them that's my tank being turned over like 10 times in an hour .. since my boyfriend doesn't want the turtles no more my mom's gonna help me get what I need lol just trying to decide on a cheap but effective filter for a 55 and with 2 cfs (rated for 100 gallon tanks) I'd have 3 times the amount of turnover (turtle gallons) as recommended . But I'm open to other options . That's why I said could I get the cfs 500 and replace the pump with a pump from the cfs 700

I'd probably get a AquaClear instead and keep saving up. Your male will likely need to be separated at some point.

They've been together since they were hatchlings every now and then I'll catch him fanning my other res but my other res just ignores him and swims off and I don't ever see any aggression either . But what version of the aquaclear ?

I didn't really want an hob they're noisy unless you fill the tank completely that's why I wanted to go with the canisters . I have a magnum 350 that I got with the tank but it's crap as I've had several issues with it ..

Penn Plax is OK. Petsmart will be having a Black Friday sale, 50% off select Fluval and Marineland canister filters but I don't know which models.

I'll have to look ! But yeah I was gunna go with a cascade 1500 if I had the cash right now I'd snag a fluval406 but the fx series is just not in the budget right now lol .. but if I don't do something black Friday I'll just end up picking up a cfs 500 till tax time then hopefully I can get a good filter lol depending on how (if I get one) the cfs handles I might just pick up a 406 tax time to run besides it :p just wanted some opinions on filters that are a bang for the buck on a budget :p

Sunsun, like the CFS is a knockoff design, but it seems to have better reviews. I would lean towards that if those were my only choices.
