Hi Impulse ! I'm still new to this forum and still reading a lot , just saw your post. Little late hope you done the fix or improvised a fix. If you still have the wire arms , clamp part , like me I'm a pack rat here's a fix. Yes Sitting on it could have done it but I find most customers at the store play with them trying to see how it works , becoming unsprang. Your picture say has two arms with triangle's at the ends. Sorry lets back up , remove the arms by the wing nut or at least remove the bulb. Don't want to shake it up maybe breaking it. In your picture take the two triangles squeeze them close to each other and move the right to the left side and left to the right side. It's lite wire so they will go around each other. You will feel lite tension due the spring action. Also if the two triangles are not lined up after this just bend until they match each other. Let them go and they will be tight against each other. Your spring action is back again. Now the wire in the middle of the arms should be about three , four inches apart. In the picture you see them about ten inches apart. At this point it will fit in the palm of your hand , squeeze together , this will open the two triangle to fit on what you want. Hopefully I stated it clear enough and sorry I did not see your post sooner. Good luck !
