broken clamp lamp

I accidentally sat on my tank. Don't ask.

So Potsie here managed to sit on it and disable George's brand new clamp lamp, and bend the second screen on the aquarium.

As for the lamp, now the clamp is wide open. It won't tighten. The thing is brand new, so I'm not that familiar with it in the first place. I took out the box it came in, but still kind of clueless.

Meanwhile, I'm reading some prefer to hang their lamps, rather than use the clamp?

I didn't mind the clamp, but, any thoughts on how to tighten it back up?

Can you post a picture of it? There are stands made to hang the lamps, or you can use something off the shelf like brackets and plant holders.

Have you tried squeezing it back? The triangles at the end cross each other, so with the lamp off and cool try pushing them past each other then sliding them perpendicular. If it doesn't have the same firm grip as before, then don't use it. You can buy a similar sized clamp lamp at a hardware store and swap the clamp. Similar to before, if it does not hold as securely as before then opt for another solution. I think hanging in most cases is a better solution. Good luck!

On a good note if it no longer holds as a clamp for a light, you just got yourself a new set of BBQ tongs.

Hi Impulse ! I'm still new to this forum and still reading a lot , just saw your post. Little late hope you done the fix or improvised a fix. If you still have the wire arms , clamp part , like me I'm a pack rat here's a fix. Yes Sitting on it could have done it but I find most customers at the store play with them trying to see how it works , becoming unsprang. Your picture say has two arms with triangle's at the ends. Sorry lets back up , remove the arms by the wing nut or at least remove the bulb. Don't want to shake it up maybe breaking it. In your picture take the two triangles squeeze them close to each other and move the right to the left side and left to the right side. It's lite wire so they will go around each other. You will feel lite tension due the spring action. Also if the two triangles are not lined up after this just bend until they match each other. Let them go and they will be tight against each other. Your spring action is back again. Now the wire in the middle of the arms should be about three , four inches apart. In the picture you see them about ten inches apart. At this point it will fit in the palm of your hand , squeeze together , this will open the two triangle to fit on what you want. Hopefully I stated it clear enough and sorry I did not see your post sooner. Good luck !
