Yep, two bags of purigen - one in the filter, one recharged and ready to go. Swap them out once a month when I clean the filter.

Thank you for your recommendation, Ijapa. This defiantly seems like a sound setup and I will plan to be able to install it sometime soon in the future. There is enough room that I could place the refugium on the floor of the tank stand that I built with the FX6 on the other side but then I wouldn't be able to see the snails and plants as well because I will be putting cabinet doors on the front of it. So I will have to build a second stand for the 20gal. That's no problem just will take a little longer to setup. But at least now I have a good idea of what I'm doing!

I've decided to go ahead and setup the Fx6 with the carbon and purigen side by side as per your guy's recommendations. Again for convenience this first time I'm just going to get everything off of Amazon.com

So the last few things I am uncertain about are:
What size carbon bags specifically are recommended that will fit the FX6? (also do I want the mesh for the carbon bag super fine or is it better not quite as fine?)
Is the Seachem "The Bag" idea for carbon as well or strictly for purigen?
Do the bags tear/rip easily? Is it important to have more then one spare on hand?
How much carbon and purigen would you recommend that I need to order to have enough for first setup and at least one replacement?
Approximately how much biomedia does it take to fill the Fx6 baskets?

Thanks for all of the great responses. You all have been very helpful. =)

As far as the media goes let's see if I can help. The size bag for carbon is usually around 5"x8" or so. They are made for carbon etc and I have provided a link. You will want 2 bags of purigen so you can swap them out. Reed the directions that comes with it for regeneration. Pm me for a shortcut on this if you don't have delicate fish. I skip a few steps. For the carbon you only need one bag. The "Bag" is for purigen only. The FX holds a lot of media. How much exactly is hard to say. Hope this helps.
