Habitat - Indoor :: Basking Box, "Gluing" PlexiGlass together

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Sat Jan 02, 2016 3:02 pm   Basking Box, "Gluing" PlexiGlass together

Several years ago, I built a basking box for my turtle that sits in the rim of the aquarium and has a ramp into the water. I attached the plexi glass sheets to each other using aquarium grade silicon, but I don't think that was the best option. It's holding up so far, but I'm thinking about building a new and improved one, but I'm wondering what the recommended silicon/epoxy/glue would be?

More questions to come later ;)

They make an epoxy for it you can get at the hardware store. Crazy Glue works too. It's what I used.

Be aware, Crazy Glue stains it white. It's not as pretty as the pro stuff.

Yeah I was trying to find out the name so I could order it or send hubby. I didn't know what would work for what I need but still be animal/water safe.

TAP Plastics has everything you need to "bond/glue" acrylic. They also have great videos on their site or youtube.

Keep in mind this is s liquid solvent much like water and the acrylic edge must be smooth for a pernament weld. If the edge is rough you might want to use weld on 16. It is thicker and will fill gaps. I also highly recommend watching Tap Plastics videos either on their web site or youtube.
