Drilling as opposed to using the strips? I know some have used small holes for traction. It might work, though not well for steep inclines.

That's what your looking for but i think you can find them cheaper. Holes might also work but my fear is a toe or toenail might get caught.

The holes will be of size around 4-5cmx1-2cm. So i guess he shouldn't have a problem!
