Once upon a time I also used poly but there is just not much need for it. Maybe to help clear cloudy water or after adding sand to a tank to help with the cloudyness. E-bay sells them 21 pads for $17. I bought them before I learned you could buy poly in a bag but I use them rarely.

Water polishing is to remove suspended particles in the water column like sand or debris that gets stirred up. It's sort of a temporary thing like kansaslider said. If you're needing that much filter floss material to do constant polishing, something else is wrong with your setup. Clear water is NOT clean filtered water. Maintaining 0/0/low is what you're striving for. What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate measurements from a drop based test kit?

My guess based solely on your pictures is that you're very low on bio media. Filter floss / polyfill is great as bio media BUT it clogs and has to be replaced frequently so you're probably not fully cycled.

Our recommended media config for the FX5 / FX6 is here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=30145

I clean my filters every 2 weeks I use the white pads above all my media so the white pads take most of waste I change them every time I clean my filters

Cleaning your filters every 2 weeks is not only a pain in the rump but also not Necessary. Some say I clean too often at once a month. Without the filter floss you could go 2 months easy.

I also run 2 fx filters with 4 turtles and fish. I also feed the turtles out of tank to cut down on the mess they can make.

K 1 media isn't designed for use in canister filters from what I have read. It requires an air pump to use .

K1 is designed for reactors where it can move around or "boil". It does work in canister filters as it provides surface area. But then again in a canister filter ANYTHING provides surface area. Based on the lack of movement in a canister vs. a reactor, I'd opt for very porous dense media like ceramic rings or nuggets vs. the K1.
