Habitat - Indoor :: Specialized hood?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

New turtle owner here. From my research, it seems that a screen hood is the way to go... I have a 20 gal long tank for our little guy; I'm leaning towards an 18" UVB bulb and an add'l bulb in a 8.5" reflector dome for the basking area. I started w/ an Aqueon Deluxe Full Hood, which isn't great because the light in the reflector dome has to come in from the side, through the glass. Anybody aware of a partial full hood (say about 20") with a 10" screen area? That would be the ideal setup, IMO.

Side note: I went with a Fluval U3, which is seemingly fine thus far.

Thanks, all. This forum is awesome!

I think I know what you're describing but I'm not sure if its worth it since it's quite limited. Do you mean something like this:

Screens are often made by the keepers themselves. And instead of hoods, lights/lamps are often hanged.

I ended up returning the full hood and getting a screen. Got a 18" UVB light and my heat light now points straight down onto the basking area.

Very nice. The UVB should be over the basking area as well... they can't absorb any of it while in the water.
