I started my turtle tank build today and realized I had everything for aquaponics laying around my house.I didnt want to spend hundreds of dollars on a filter so I am using what I have. Here is what I have so far.The blur tote will be a next box,it already had the top soil in it.

This is probably the first indoor aquaponics I've seen for turtles. The window will block out any UVB rays however. Are the fittings glued together?

The fittings are not glued yet.I have rebuilt it using 2x12 so it wont collapse into the tank when it full of rocks. Also I know that glass blocks UVB,I am using a powersun when its done. The reason I did it buy the window was so water changes would be easier.Ill get a picture of the stage its at now in a few minutes.

That seems like a large amount of weight to put over the end, how much does it weigh? Is there any additional support?

I am not sure of the weight, but it is 2.5 cubic feet of gravel. The tank s made out of half inch thick glass so its pretty strong. This is also temporary,Ill move them to an outdoor pond when I can afford one.I want to get an 8 x 2 foot stock tank from tractor supply.

Nice set up. I would be a little worried of the weight on the tank though.

I have an aquaponics system for my goldfish tank and am considering making one for my turtle too. Way easier to clean and take care of compared to a canister filter. I would only grow house plants or veggies that only my turtle would eat in it though. When I tell people I grow veggies in my goldfish system for me and my turtle..the first thing I get is "OMG you're gonna get salmonella!"...people just see turtle and veggies and that's it...lol..
