Hello,

Lately it has been really cold here, about 37F and the tap water is extremely cold. My tank is due for a water change but I dont know how to do it, should I put the water in a bucket and then heat it with my heater? I dont want to use warm water from the sink because it might be contaminated due to old piping. Please let me know how you guys go around it.

Thanks

You can do the bucket thing that works. You could also use a bucket and just let the water come up to room temp. Its really cold here also I find that partial water changes does not effect the tank temp enough to worry about it so i just use cold tap water. Never use hot water out of the tap!

Agree with Stacy 100% here. If you're doing a partial change, then Home Depot and Lowes carry 5 gallon buckets you can use. If you need to do a complete change, then dry dock your turtles overnight while the water warms up in the tank.

I just do more frequent changes of less volume. Maybe split your change in half across morning and night.

Having a way oversized heater helps the tank temp rebound quicker.
