Habitat - Indoor :: Thurman's crib

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hey all posted awhile ago about Thurmans RI and recovery well now he has a new setup and he is as happy as I think is possible and he eats all his veggies and pellets without issue,something I never thought would happen.It seems his eating was due to being unhappy and cramped.
I made this setup out of a 300 gal food grade poly tank the kind you find in the pallet cage for forklifts,I salvaged it for 20$ cause the cage was damaged (didnt need it anyways)
I cut the tank about 2/3 of the height so full it would hold 200 gals ,I then cut the top it 3 pieces so I could flip one for a dock and the other as a shelf as well as to add stability to the tank and secured them.I also put a full 2 x 4 frame around the tank so I could install the hardwood trim (actually laminate flooring left from my office floor) and I made the frame longer on the end that give me access to the drain valve and all my filtration (fluval 305 50$ used with about 3 media changes) and storage.
I got a pleco,4 danios,6 tetra and of all things a beta in there as well to keep him company,I figured they would be diner but he shows no interest in eating them at all ,I think he is a bit lazy.
Also I have some hornwort, fake plants and an air aerator , 2- 200 watt heaters with abs heater guards ( 72-74 F) pool filter sand substrate with a few flat stones and some river stone to break up the all white color as well as a intank fluval U3.
His dock area has a uvb light on the left side with the ramp and the heat side has the tiles with a thermometer ,he is still a little shy with his basking area.It might be too open for him to feel safe.
I really enjoyed this project and I just sit there and watch him be happy and it made all the work so worth it........its gonna be a pain if we ever move though.

I like it a lot! Very creative work. I'd try to position the UVB closer to the basking light, or consider a tube lamp.

I moved the UVB to the middle closer to the basking tiles, thanks for the advice Steve.
I also removed the mirror from the basking area ,I think it the reflection was freaking him out and causing him to not bask.
I made a new ramp out of a cutting board ,the old one was too flimsy.I might need to remove the sand from the basking area,the grinding from him going to the tiles might be uncomfortable for him.Not sure what to use for substrate up there though.
Any advice?

If you use large river rock, you could allow the water to drain back down. You can also try cork bark instead or over the tile.
