Habitat - Indoor :: Glasscages, should I be worried?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Fri Oct 11, 2013 1:57 pm   Glasscages, should I be worried?

Hi Everyone,

I made an order on September 24th,2013 for the following:
A Condo Tank: 48x24x12 (for the turtle to bask on)
A glass turtle tank: 48x24x25
Stand: 48x24x24

Here is my concern, I saw on this forum about a year ago someone recommending Glasscages.com, and I became surprised at how cheap their prices were so I ordered from there on 9/24/13. I did some more research the next day and saw a lot of threads speaking negatively about their products, some consumers shared stories about their tanks failing, even breaking apart. I am wondering if anyone has bought from glasscages before and have been satisfied? I don't know what to expect, and I don't want to harm my turtle and inadvertently set my house on fire while I am away at work.

Any input will be greatly appreciated. I know I rushed in making this purchase , I should've researched more. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I forgot to mention that they said this product will be ready next week, Wednesday. Based on the reviews I've read, my gut is telling me to cancel the order but if they've already completed building the aquarium - am I entitled to a refund?

You'll have to check their polices regarding cancellation. You might need your credit card company to help out... however I've never heard bad things about them. Can you point to those concerning threads/sites?

Definitely, when I get a chance after work I will post a link to all the threads that have raised my concerns.

Oh man I have read horror stories about Glass Cages. that does not necessarily mean your order would be screwed up but if it is then chances are you are going to lose money, they do refunds but not the shipping i believe and that is also shady. There are so many threads out there with mixed reviews but the bad ones are pretty bad for me to stay away from them.

check out this thread http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/126515-t ... was-grief/ it's actually kind of hilarious, but man stay away from GC if you can. Good luck

That story brings up a good point. Check them out on BBB web site. How many complaints ratings etc!

BBB ranking might be a bit skewed if they do not participate. I'd examine the tank very closely be accepting it. Even then, some credit card companies give you up to 60 days for disputes.

True BBB is only good if they respond to their stuff and complaints. Honestly the best way to go is order a tank from your local LFS that way you can inspect it and they are right there if you ever have any issues its not like they can run away. You could also just buy a used tank in good shape off craigslist and get a bang for your buck. If you ordered one of the GC turtle tanks those can be made at home easily modifying a regular tank with some glass and silicone.

You can also open a claim with BBB. I did about something else some years ago and my problem was resolved asap! Got my money back! And yes your credit card Co can do the same but maybe your just worried without cause. I say wait till you get the tank before taking any action.

According to the BBB, Glass Cages (Twin Oaks Terrariums) is not accredited with them but again, this is a voluntary system. They are not required by anyone to be a part of it. I would refuse delivery at any sign of defect, scratch or sloppy caulking.

Good friends + pizza. I'm surprised most places don't offer assembly on site, they can charge a nice fee for that.
