How big is the turtle now? Do you know if you have a male or female? The filter looks a bit powerful for a 40 gallon IMO.

Before you go dropping cash on a new filter:

What's the filter you have now?
What media do you have in it?
How long has it been running? Is it cycled?

You may just need to change the position or type of media in it.

@ Steve: most of the generic canisters rate their pumps with no media and no head. 525GPH on a SunSun is just the pump. When you fill it with media and add a couple of feet of head, I'd bet that canister does 50% of that at best.

For easy math, let's say it does 260GPH. 260/40 = 6.5 That would turn the 40 gallon tank over 6.5 times per hour. 3-5 is ideal any more is even better. While it seems like a great filter now it's not big enough for an adult sized turtle. Better to maximize the filter you have now and save for one of the large FX5's, eheims or the like.
