Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

So I my turtle recently moved to a bigger tank, but after one night the water is all murky and the floor of the tank has some slimy film and there are white stuff floating around like dandruff. The turtle also has some white fuzz on his shell. Is the filter too small for the tank?

Hard to see the turtle...

Those are not filters they are water pumps. They do not clean the water they just move water around.

I see a couple of habitat issues from your pictures:

1. Your tank looks to be too small. It will be tough to fit a decent filter onto it and your turtle will outgrow both in a matter of months. Look to upgrading to a larger tank or even a large plastic bin. The largest hang-on-the-back type filter, like an AquaClear, you can fit on the tank will do for a while but eventually you will need a canister filter.

2. I don't see a heater or basking light. Unless you live in a tropical country you will need both. For a small hatchling the water temperature should be around 78-80 F, and the basking area temperature should be in around 90F.

If you haven't already, please take some time to read through all the links at the top of the page on how to setup. Don't hesitate to post if you have any other questions.

Is it going through a window? Most windows will filter out the UVB.
