First thing that comes out of my mind: have you primed the filter? The filter itself
and all hoses should be filled with water before you turn on the filter.

Hi, I recently inherited a Jebo838. I know this is an old post but it fits with my same problem. Ive filled the canister completely with water, filled the hoses with water, pressed the button and immediately the water level drops but there is no suction in the uptake tube??? Im so confused. Ive checked that all the filter baskets are aligned. I put the media filled baskets on the bottom. Not sure what to do. I have no instruction manual and cant find one online for this filter. Any suggestions??

Yes, Thank you. This is the filter I have and I have done all the things shown in the instructions. I just dont understand why it wont maintain pressure when its completely filled with water, all the baskets are aligned and clean???? I guess I just have to keep tinkering. Thanks again. :(

Any loose connections? How long have you had the filter?

Remember filters don't suck water in. The work via a gravity siphon and the pump in the filter pushes water out. As Steve said, any loose fittings or connections will allow air in and break the siphon.

Thanks so much for your help! Lots of plumbers tape around the hose connections and it worked like a charm. Turtles are much happier. Now dealing with cloudy water but Im going to try some of the suggestions in the forum and see how it goes. ; )

Cloudy water is probably your tank cycling don't worry it will go away as soon as the beneficial bacteria colony builds up. Try to keep water changes as minimum as possible until then or it will take longer for the cloudiness to go away. Do not rinse your filter media with anything other than your tank water to keep the good bacteria alive.
