Hi, everyone. I need some help with a DIY canister filter I've recently built with a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket and a Leaktite screw-top lid. Basically the problem I'm having is that once I turn the pump on, water sprays and leaks out from the lid even when though I have it screwed as tightly as I possibly can. The pump I'm using is a CN-3500 Chaning and the lid has a gasket. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix my problem?

It's leaking from the gasket?

Yeah, it looks like the water is squeezing out from the gasket. It doesn't have any holes or rips, so I'm guessing maybe it's not thick enough. I'll look into getting a thicker gasket. Does anyone have any other ideas or knowledge of my problem?

Sorry, I'm at a loss if it's not actually in front of me. Is it leaking a lot?

This is the lid:http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leaktite-5-gal-Screw-Top-Lid-5GAMMA6/203205720?AID=11210757&PID=6156021&SID=ipsv7bwmu900kp44001rw&cm_mmc=CJ-_-6156021-_-11210757&cj=true

When I turn on the pump, water will squirt out in a line from between the lid and the adapter (the part that snaps around the bucket). It always leaks/drips from a few other spots.

I'm not familiar with it... can you try with a different one? I don't think there should be that much pressure, but I could be wrong. Does it work though? Is the filter kept below the tanks water line?

I have the filter under the tank. And it did seem to work. It took in water and put water back out. Though the 2nd time I tried the filter I think the output tube might have been sucking in water, too.

Are the plans based on your filter design online?

Ah, that article is by Marc, from Little RES Q. Is everything seated properly?

I believe so, but the filter is under the tank rather than above. The output tubing is a bit bent, so maybe that's causing the water not to come out as fast as it is coming in. The filter is on the metal tank stand and is about 4 inches off the ground; because it's a bit cramped, the tube's bent.

The diameter of the lid is 1 foot. Do you know where I can find a gasket that can fit? I'm looking, but it seems most gaskets for canister filters run smaller.

I've no idea... maybe a plumbing specialty store. Have you tried a different lid?

What lid do you recommend?
