Oops, sorry...I was looking at the skin pattern (which didn't show the cheeks as clearly, at least on my screen) in your first picture...I said that because my YBS's skin was practically black. She was pretty old, from what I was told.

Although I probably should have noted the absence of plastron "whorls", too. My apologies!

No problem. Franklin is only 10 months old and is 5" long(by shell length only). He grew up so fast! I read that they begin to turn black when they are elderly. I posted somewhere that he was over a year old, it didn't sound right, so I had to redo my math.
