Habitat - Indoor :: Sleeping area

I read that sliders should have an area in tank where they can rest or sleep just under water but not too deep. None of the tanks I have seen here have that, that I could see. I have only seen basking platforms. Is it necessary to have a shallow resting area in a deep tank. My slider is a rescue and has never been in a tank that allowed for swimming as far as I know.

I haven't heard of this before, but then it's certainly not a bad idea if you have the space for it. It might be a good idea for you to build it yourself out of some CPVC pipe, electrical ties, and egg crate. That way you can make it to fit your tank. If she has any swimming issues I would think a stand close to the top would be a good idea too. Hopefully someone else will know more than I do.

It's more important for hatchlings to have resting spots. For resting while awake or asleep, my RES would have one arm on the basking area or tiptoe on an underwater cave to stand in deeper water. They're adult size now, so they have plenty of strength and energy.
