General Care Discussion :: Turtle Eating the Dock

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi All,

My turtle has been biting off chunks off the floating dock, have you guys seen this before? If so, do you have any tips on what can be done. She's already gone through half the dock. I think she may like the rough sensation on her beak. However I don't know if she is swallowing any of the bits so I need a solution.

Thanks in Advance

You can try cuttlebone, found in the bird section of a pet store. Just remove the hard backing and metal pin. I'd also get a different dock, especially if the cuttlebone doesn't work.

you might wanna search pet store websites on the internet for others or you could attempt to build your own

Fringe- at least 1 yr yellow-belly
2 other recently adopted red ears same age

You an try a dock like this:

You may want to consider making your own dock if your tank has the space for it.

Steve, is that the Tetra dock that came out several months ago? Never got my attention, looks like a fancy carport, just curious.

I don't know what brand it is but it's been around awhile. There is another acrylic turtle dock, though I don't remember the name. Carol really likes hers, maybe she can chime in...

My turtle also bites his dock. After observing him, I've found that what he likes is the algae that grows on the dock. he tries to get the algae and ends up taking bites out of the dock itself.

Try feeding him some extra green veggies. That might be helpful.
