Posted: Mon Aug 19, 2024 9:33 am my turtle died and im not sure if its overbasking
so i was going on vacation for a week and i left my 2 hatchlings (2-4 months old) in my room with the basking light on so they can bask. when i returned, everything seemed fine, they were both alive and one was perfectly fine but my other turtle almost always basks so i noticed around his eyes was super dry and white so i nudged him in the water and he was swimming, i thought everything was fine, turned off the basking light and slept. woke up to my turtle tossed around the tank from my filter and wasnt swimming at all. pulled him out and he wasnt moving and i also saw a white patch on his head. i think i couldnt see it then because he had his head tucked. i feel so bad and im not sure if its due to me turning the basking light on the whole week or because he just wasnt swimming almost at all. its not my first time having turtles, i had 2 and they loved to swim so i just thought hed adapt to the environment and will swim on his own later on. i feel awful, i didnt know he wouldnt swim at all.
