Question about getting second RES

Hello my name is Brandon. My turtle is about 10-12years old, I’m second owner and have had him for about 9 years. I would like to get a second turtle, like a friend for my current one, but am curious if it would be a good or bad idea since he is special.

The previous owner kept him in a beta fish tank for god knows how long, once when I got him all those years ago I put him into a 10 gallon tank. He now sits in a 25 gallon. I say he’s special because his growth has been “stunted” and still remains just about as big as my palm. He’s always been by himself (unless I give him a feeder).

He’s perfectly healthy. No pyramiding, she’ll rot, etc

My overall question is would it be ok to get a second turtle, seeing that he’ll remain the same size and the other will grow? Or is that a no go.
Also, can I get confirmation that his size is permanent? I just need to someone to tell me.

His size is probably permanent. It's not too off from the average male RES size though. Since your turtle is a male, I would advise you keep him alone that is unless you have the resources to rehome or to have a whole separate tank.
