General Care Discussion :: Odd Behavior (Never noticed until now)

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I recently moved Skipper from a 55 gallon tall aquarium to a 75 gallon standard aquarium with black sand (dont know if that matters) and a big goldfish.
And I noticed that she lies on the sand with her neck stretched out, smelling around, but there's nothing around her. She has never done this before (maybe she just likes the sand :D)

Maybe all the chlorine in the water? Any silica sand is fine, dark color might make the poop a bit harder to find.

I did dechlorinate the water, so chlorine isn't an issue.
She seems a lot more relaxed since I added the sand, but my goldfish has been going nuts for weeks and I think he scares her a little!
This is the sand I have

Is she picking at the sand? Might be looking for food. When I first put sand in my turtle tank, the turtles would love walking across the bottom to look for pieces of food. They loved the sand in general.

Did you account for the additional water? Any pics of how the sand looks in the tank? Was the sand very dusty?

I did dechlorinate for 75 gallons of water, and the sand looks just like the picture here https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-revi ... B007R55QUU
the sand wasn't that dusty and settled quickly. and it's sparkly.

Then she was probably just getting used to her new home :)
