General Care Discussion :: Baby RES shell color

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi my name is Isabel. I recently was given an RES without knowing the care that is required for them. I have been feeding him well - pellets, dried shrimp, lettuce, and chicken or ham. He does not have any spots of white or algae on his belly or shell however the middle of his shell has begun to lighten in color, almost a dull yellow. I clean his shell and tank once a day since I have not acquired a permanent tank for him with a filter. He has plenty of light and warmth and I catch him sunbathing often. I think he is pretty comfortable since he started to trust me enough to feed him by hand. Perhaps I am overfeeding him, which is the only conclusion I can come to besides the natural pigment changes that occur through growth. Here are some pictures of George which are not very good quality but show my concern  :

There are probably a couple of issues going on, but the main one I see is overfeeding. ANy more info about his setup and diet?
