Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I got my RES about three weeks ago and I have finally got his tank set up; he is more active and hungry and seems to be overall happier than when I first got him. The only issue is that he does not bask, EVER! He pokes his head above the surface a lot and looks around but he never goes on his stand under the heat lamp. When I first put the stand in, he went on it to see what was up there and then would quickly dive back in so I know he knows how to get up there but he just never does. I have his tank in one corner of my office since I work 7 days a week, it's away from the door but I wonder if it is too noisy/busy and maybe that's he doesn't want to come up... if so, do you think he'll get over it?
Thanks!

Can you post a picture of it? Generally, I would give it a little more time, add a bit more cover and he's likely basking when no one is around.

Here are some basking tips: http://www.redearslider.com/basking.html
