General Care Discussion :: My YBS has bad depth perception?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I am trying to figure out if something's wrong with my YBS. If I try to hand feed her she misses the food 4-5 times before she catches it (she doesn't seem to have this problem if the food is floating on the surface) and if I put her onto my bed or a counter top she'd walk straight off into her death without second thought.

A friend's RES on the other hand recognizes ledges just fine and stops herself before diving off.

Is it an age thing? I have no idea how old mine is, but she's about 13-14cm across.

Thanks a lot!

I would consider it normal. Some have theorized that their perception is not very good when out of water, or that they are simply used to what its like in water. When moving off a ledge, they'd somehow expect to hit water and I think it kind of makes sense.
