General Care Discussion :: Expert opinions.

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hello all
I'm brand new to the turtle world I got my res from the local pet store five days ago and I am hooked! He seems to be adjusting to his new home really well. Very active, swims alot and loves to bask. But after looking at hundreds of pictures on the web I am getting slightly concerned about his shell health. If I can figure out how to get some good pics up here do you think I can get some opinions?

Welcome to the forum!

Looks like (s)he has been overfeed as the shell rings should be smooter. How big is your turtle?

There is also some shedding starting, so that's a pretty good sign. No need to do anything, just keep an eye on it and don't force any off. Regularly basking is a good sign too.

Looks like he's in need of a real good shed too on top of the over fed shell look. Usually pet shops don't provide the best UV. If you get a small kiddie pool n put a brick in the middle and let him out side to bask for like 5 hours a day that shell will start shedding like crazy once it gets warm outside
