General Care Discussion :: Turtle Shell Question

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri Sep 16, 2016 6:42 pm   Turtle Shell Question

I have 2 baby RES. I have had them about 2 months. They are both active and eat good. I have a heater and area for them to dry off and bask. The water is 78-82. There is a dome light with 2 bulbs (1 heat 1 uv) that is on a timer and burns 10 hours a day. I feed them every other day - in a separate tank to help with the water quality of their tank. I currently feed them a mix of pellets, freeze dried shrimp, and freeze dried krill. (Is this the proper diet - there are different suggestions online and I want to make sure I follow the correct one)

Today I noticed a black spot on one of the shells. This turtle doesnt bask as much as the other one - but does get out of the water some.

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Lauren

Hi, I don't see anything wrong. It might just be the picture? For feeding, you can do it everyday, just halve the amount. Growing hatchlings should probably be getting more (2/3 head amount). Keep the shrimp/krill as a rare treat.

Is your basking area large enough?
