I would take them out of the box when you get them. Put them in some water and take some small pellets or shrimp with you to see if they will eat.

Meet Atlas our new Juvenile ( hopefully male ) map turtle.. Haven't had a chance to measure his carapace yet.. but he appears to be slightly bigger then Phil was.. So I would guess about 3". He arrived active and raring to go and we put the two or them in a bin while we worked and these two gobbled up their food in 10 mins and proceeded to poop a lot..lol They appear healthy. So we are really happy with MyturtleStore.com for sending us healthy turtles..

Atlas is the bigger one of the two.. My Co worker wanted the cute smaller one.. I didn't care.. I liked them both.. lol

My male map is something like 4 years old and tops 3". Was size of quarter when I got him. Took maybe 1.5 years to reach adult size?

Ok so he could be at least a year and half?? I will need to measure him for sure.. but I don't think he is adult yet.. if he is Male.. he appears to have long tail with thick base.. but not the tell tale long front claws.. I suspect he is between 2.5- 3" in carapace length.. Phil had gotten to about 2.5 " and Hubby thinks this turtle is slightly bigger.. I am not sure,, I think he has bigger webbed feet and higher carapace.. but not sure it is much longer..

Meet Titan, he is definitely 2 1/2 we measured him and Atlas is 2 1/4 about the same as Phil was.. amazing how one quarter of an inch makes the turtle look much bigger. Titan really appears to be male, concave plastron and longer tail.. Haven't had much chance to check his nails, I don't think they are longer then normal.

Hubby came up with names from when he worked on Rockets at the Cape in Florida..lol

Introducing Titan,, we took unboxing video haven't had time to fiddle with it yet..
Put him in feeding tank and he gobbled up all his food and pooped.. He appears as healthy as Atlas. This one came from Turtle Source. They sent a tonne of sample food for him.. enough to feed both for a year I would say..lol Specially since I have other food as well. Looking at his nails in this one pic what do you think?? Male??

I got both turtles taking shrimp from my hand in feeding tank... It's the only food I can feed them that stays together under water. Titan finally took one from my hand above water, now I can start offering him pellets.. Atlas (map) seems really agitated.. he looks like a mini me gravid female trying to escape his aquarium.. keeps swimming to bottom and launching himself as fast as he can to the surface.. He does this on and off throughout the day,, is this behaviour I should be concerned about or is he just being a turtle.. Titan ( painted) has settled right in.. calmly sits in corner on the brick with live plants growing out of it.. Or basking on the Root.. He let us walk right up him on the root last night.. He is much more sedate then the Map.. Just wanna make sure the Map (Atlas) is just being a map.. I have no experience with map turtles..
Atlas does eat though,, Last night to be sure,, after I gave him a couple shrimps by hand.. I took Titan out and left him by himself in the feeding tank with a few floating pellets and he ate them all.. So he is definitely not sooo stressed he don't eat..lol
