Shell color change

I have noticed a slight fading of my turtles shell over the past week. Could I get any insight as to what this might be? Here is a picture of my red eared slider. He's still very active and happy. I'm hoping that it's not the beginning of shell rot. The shell also is very hard and no bumps. Thanks !

Might be getting ready to shed. Any other symptoms?

Thanks for the quick response. I noticed a very little bit of shedding around his tail, other than that, he's seems very healthy. He's active, basks ( has UVB/UVA light and heat lamp ) and he has a healthy appetite.

Do you mean skin shedding around the tail? Or scutes? There's no correlation between them.

I now realize that they aren't related. I did notice a tiny bit of skin shedding around the tail, but haven't noticed any more otherwise. After you mentioned the shell shedding, I've looked up pictures and it seems like this may be what he has.

His seams look a little thick, so maybe a few less pellets.
