Hello all!

I am planning on making my own DIY trick-down tower filter for my RES. I've been doing some research on the aquarium pump that is placed in the sump that pushes the flow of water.

I have a 50-gal tank/tub and I am just wondering how many GPH aquarium pump should I be aiming for?

Thanks!

I don't think I've seen any of those, do you have a reference pic/links?

I'm planning on doing something to the similar but the tank I'll have mime on will be 110 gallon stock tank and for that I'm gunna use a 740 gph powerhead as my return with inch and a half pvc for the overflow so my sump doesn't run bare and burn my pump up . And I'll also have my magnum 350 and that's another added 350 gph to the tank so that's 1,090 gph being filtered on a 110 gallon tank . Filtration is everything . PM me and we can maybe talk ? I'll tell you what I have in mind for my stock tank build :)

That's pretty cool. Will this be the only filter in the tank?

Initially yes. I wanna run it and test how well it will filter. Since the sump will add to the total tank volume, I might have to add another filter later on.

I'm not sure if it would provide enough circulation to breakup and pick up turtle waste. You'll probably need some sort of extra pump for circulation.

For me I'll have my magnum 350 on the tank too for added filtration and circulation

@Steve that was my initial thought at first. I thought the pump was acting as a two way system thag drew water out and back into the tank via a filter. But the overflow system will take care of the outflow and the pump just pushes the filtered water from the sump back in
