General Care Discussion :: Feeder fish diseases?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

By feeder fish i do NOT mean goldfish. Never.
Also, not only feeder fish. I have many fish with the turtle, and yes im aware the turtle can eat them. That i dont care, but my real question is since i dont have the space for a quarantine tank, and i mean NO space (young teen living with parents still) is their any fish disease that can be passed to turtles? I am heading to the pet store tomorrow and am planning to get a couple of things so this is why i ask. Never had a problem before, just feel the need to ask. Thanks :D

Thing about feeder fish is the very stressful/dirty conditions they are in. I think parasites are the main problem but is probably also not a very likely one for RES.

So if I was to get feeder fish I should setup a plastic tub with a mini filter for a week or so which feeding them, etc?
Or can I buy fish that are not considered "feeders" since they are housed in better conditions.
I have noticed that the store in Canada in my area is not a big chain like petsmart or petco. Their feeders are not really crowded. Usually 20-40 in a 50 gallon tank. (Guppies)

Those are some good points, I think it's up to you. I usually put them in a separate container for a couple of days, and then usually half of them are dead. The ones left are for the turtles.
