It's been awhile since I've posted. Hope all is well. Monster Frank, our two year old (approximately) painted, appears to be shedding. Although I'm not sure. When dry, it looks like some of his scutes have a layer peeling back. They've been this way for a while though. If it's not shedding, it got me wondering if my lights are far enough away. I've got a 45w florescent flood UVA (heat) and a Reptisun 5 UVB, both 8 inches above his basking area. He basks regularly and appears to be fine with his basking setup. His setup hasn't changed in over a year. Does shedding take a while? Is the peeling layer possible sunburn if my lights are too close?

Shedding times vary, I think everything sounds normal. I'm not sure about your basking lamp because a florescent one would not provide a lot of heat.

Thanks, Steve. I'll check when I get home, as it's been awhile, but the basking area usually stayed in the low to mid 90's. I though I originally got the florescent flood bulb idea from Kansasslider, but I could very well be wrong. I'll check the basking area temp when I get home.

My basking area is reading right at 90 degrees.

That's good. Is it a thin layer or a thick one?

Thin. Edges are peeling back.

I would not have recommended a flourecent bulb. I might have recommended a Halogen flood light bulb. I use an incandescent bulb but if your temp is fine I'd say its fine.

Correct, that's right. I confused\misused "florescent" and "incandescent". I use an incandescent bulb.
