Why do baby turtles sit on top of each other? Is the basking area not big enough? Is it dominance? Do they like each other? It usually seems to be a certain one, but I've seen the other one craw on the other's shell as well.

They stack to be close to the heat. The higher they are, the warmer they are (but if the temp were too hot they wouldn't do it and most likely wouldn't bask for any length of time).

They always do it. If they're both swimming one will keep kind of going to the basking area and then swim some more until it looks like the other one is going to do it too. As soon as one officially gets out to bask the other one climbs out too. And they stack.

Cute turtles! Is it just me or does it look like the bottom turtle has a red cut around her eye? What is their set up like? The stacking is adorable!

That was the one I wrote about in a different post. I got some sort of thing out of its eye and it's fine now.
