General Care Discussion :: Turtle Less Active Than Usual

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Okay so ever since i moved my eight year old red eared slider into their new tank, which is an indoor pond and about 80 gallons, they've been a lot less active than usual. They just sit in one spot and they usually only come out to eat.
I'll list what's going on down below so it's easier to read:

He is eating normally
His water is clean
His water was about 86 degrees (which is a bit too warm and I will lower it soon)
He hasn't been using his basking dock
When I take them outside to walk around every week they are just as active as they've always been

If anyone has any suggestions or needs more information please reply.

I'd lower the water temp and increase the basking area temp. Add some more privacy (cover the sides, don't disturb him, etc)

Is there more than one turtle? What was the previous setup like?

Ok so I lowered the water temperature and i'll check on him in a few hours to see if that helped. I also moved the lights a little bit closer. His tank is already in the quietest part of the house so there's not much more I can do about that.

He's the only one in there, and his old aquarium was much much too small.

Sounds like you're doing the right things. Has his basking area changed? Some of the more picky RES prefer more natural looking ones than artificial ones.

Same island he had in the old tank. Now the water temperature is lower they seem a bit better but I'm still not sure if I should be worried?
