I have had my RES for over 11 years. I wasn't too sure on if they were male or female till one of them laid eggs this weekend. Her nails are super short, but looking at the other turtle, it's nails are longer than the females but about half as long as the normal male red eared slider. Is this possible that it fertilized the eggs?

How big are they? Have a picture? If the are kept together and OK with each other, then they are both probably females.

The female is about 8-9 inches and the other turtle is 7-8. Lately they been getting along but years ago the smaller one used to bite the legs of the female

Hmmm, the smaller one could be a large male. If you can't posts pics, maybe look under their tail and see where the opening (cloaca) is. On a male, it's closer to the middle, a female has it closer to the shell.
