General Care Discussion :: Found tiny baby red ear slider

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hey guys! New here and have a question. We have a large koi fish pond with 1 LARGE red ear slider that we have had for 18 years...he is truly part of the family. Yesterday my husband found a baby one in our pool. He is about 1 1/2 inches long. Can't figure out for sure where he came from. There is a pond about a 1/4 mile away so the only thing I can figure is maybe a bird picked him up and dropped him. Anyway, my question is this: Is it save to put him in our pond? The fish are very large (12 - 24 inches long) but I don't think they will bother him. But what about the larger turtle? I am afraid he will try to eat him. If it matters, based on what I have read I think Louis is a SHE and not a HE...

Any advice would be helpful!

I would keep the hatchling indoors to make sure it's eating and healthy. How big is your pond? If either turtle is a male, you will likely need to separate down the line.
