General Care Discussion :: Random brown line underneath my RES's mouth

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Apr 14, 2015 11:12 pm   Random brown line underneath my RES's mouth

A few weeks back I noticed both my RES had this brown line underneath their mouths. I've had them for almost a year and I've never seen this on them before so I was wondering what it was and if it meant anything bad.

Not sure, does your turtle try to climb out a lot and this might be from rubbing against the tank?

They both have it? That's strange. Like Steve said it might be rubbing, but it might be an illness as well, maybe? I don't know.

Whenever I approach them, they always swim towards me and I guess they do rub against the tank as a result. Will this become a major concern later on?

Thank you for replying. Are there any illnesses that you know of that result in a brown line underneath the mouth?

How hard do they go against the glass? Any other brown spots on the turtle(s)?

Thank you for responding. Whenever I am near them, they are always swimming against the glass quite hard. There are no other visible brown spots on the turtles. As of right now, the brown lines underneath the turtles' mouths seem to be fading. Any reasons why?

It sounds like it's mostly aggressive begging.

Thank you for answering. I am a little confused about this aggressive begging. Are the turtles begging for attention or for food?

Food. Always food, but don't give in. They always act and eat like they're starving.
