General Care Discussion :: Biting his figernails?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Now my RES is really doing something wierd

When he comes out of the water to start basking he will nip at his front fingers, paws etc.. ( never really bites them thought ) and makes a popping noise I can hear in the next room

It almost reminds me of when you see a dog bite at his foot when he is eating because he thinks it is going after the food

Any ideas?

Is your turtle shedding skin at all? Sometimes they'll bite at loose skin. I don't understand what you mean about the popping noise. Does it happen independent of the biting or when he's biting?

He doesn't appear to be shedding to much

The poping noise is actually his jaw he when he is "snapping" at something.

I know the sound, Da Vinci trys to bite at the paper towel when he's getting a bath. I don't know why he's biting himself though...maybe he just loves himself and giving himself kisses...hehe.
