General Care Discussion :: flaky skin

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

My RES has recently started having flaking skin all over her body. She does not seem affected in any other way. She is still eating well, basking and behaving normally. She doesn't seem at all bothered by it except that I have seen her biting off some of the larger pieces of skin.

Is this flaking something that I need to be concerned about? Is there something that I can add to her diet or water to possibly help out with this?

If it's thin whispy pieces of skin, then it's perfectly normal and called "shedding". If it becomes excessive then you'd have to look into why it was happening. One reason would be having the water temperature too high. Otherwise, no need to worry :)

*whew* I had no idea that she would shed. Thanks for easing my mind. I'll keep an eye on her, but I think that you are probably right.
