Ok so i was reading about oxgenated water... does the water filter put the oxgeneted water back in that is needed? if not do I need to purchase a oxgenetor to put in so there is enough oxgen?

Turtles have lungs so they don't need bubble wands or anything like that for the water.

It would be a good idea to get a filter that would aerate your water, especially if you get a filter with bio-media.

what i got was a zoo med Turtle cleanfilter 318 multi-function aqusarium filter.
but there was not much information that came with I am going to go to their website and see if they further specs on it there.
I had already been to that spot on the site before I had posted my question thank you

Ok went to the site and they had nothing further then what i already have here. which sorta sucks. so will have to see about possiable getting a different one? will check to see what is recommended thank you again

Some turtles do like the bubbles given off by bubble wands, if you want to add O2 that way. Plants like anachris are known to be oxygenators as well (but your turtle likely will make a mess if a lot of them are in the tank).

A filter that incorporates a waterfall so the water is exposed to air (like an Aquaclear--the filter you have really isn't that good) would also help. And just doing partial water changes would as well.

I'm assuming you know that your turtle doesn't breath like a fish, so O2 isn't vital in that respect. But, well-oxygenated water will also keep down algae, if that's a problem.

ok thank you, I just did a full tank change today and cleaned the filter and did a health inspection on Tortuga, T is coming along nicely. I will check to see how much aquaclear filter is I like the idea of a water fall one. also,
will put that on the list to get for the 50 gal tank...right now have a 10gal tank and T is about an 1"-1.5" I know i need a bigger tank but my funding at this time is all i could get....I have 8 gallons of water in the tank. T is eating good I am feeding her 2 pellets soaked in tuna <only way i could get her to touch them> twice a day. then i have live plants in tank also, and give her carrots to snack on also with lettuce ect.. and she is now basking doesn't matter who is in the room which is cool to see and T is very active. also have a couple of red roseys for her to play with/ eat if she wants. but hasn't shown any interest in them...I did have a problem with her trying to get behind the poles for the floating dock. but when i redid tank today I weaved some plants around them.. and that has seem to stop her from doing that was afraid she would get stuck. sorry didn't mean to ramble here. just really happy that T is thriving and happy. and just wanted to share thank you for your imput I will get a different filter like you recommended

If you get a 50-gallon tank and plan to get an Aquaclear, get the Aquaclear 110 (was called the 500 before).

Howdy ok update here, went and got the aquaclear 20 (only have a 10 gal tank right now) for approx 30 bucks... have it installed and going and Tortuga is enoying it much better than the other one I had (peice of *hit) for those don't invest in the zoo med filter its not really good. the tank is cleaning up really good. also got 6 ghost shrimp and put in.. thank you again for all your help here, you folks ROCK!

another quick update.....since the new filter..and adding the ghost shirmp Tortuga has just been swimming all over the place and quite active....he keeps chasing the shirmp trying to catch them which is cool to watch.. but has yet to catch them... whew want them to clean out the bottom before he eats them

hmmm, i was looking at the air things and bubble wand stuff, do i need a 50 gallon air thing? or can i just use a 10 gallon one?

You can use a smaller one.. although I don't think the larger ones cost all that much more. It's just a matter of moving the water... not purifying/cleaning it. What sort of filter do you have?
