I would say he's fine too. Just keep an eye on him, ok? Any other thing that seems out of the ordinary and it worries you...just post it here (no matter what other people say ;) ).

Sounds like normal activity to me. It sounds like he was itchy or something. I've never heard of twitching being a sign of bone disease.

I think every strange thing (or something I thought was strange) freaked me out when I first got my turtle. Sometimes it still does. I think it's because I was raised primarily around cats my whole life so having a turtle is something completely different. I could tell you about all the different behaviors I've witnessed in cats and decode them but when it comes to turtles you have to learn what their set of behaviors are.

It's okay to be concerned. Pretty soon you'll understand your turtle's behaviors more and nothing will worry you. ;)

The twitching when basking occurs because the turtle is getting warm and is thermoregulating. When he gets too warm, he'll either move a little further away from the light or go back in the water to cool off.

The forums are here to post on, it's not harming anybody that you're asking a lot of questions. If someone else comes along with the same concern, it will actually be helpful to have it already answered here.

I agree with the previous posters, I think he's just stretching. :)

Anyone with a twitching turtle should read my post in the "Urgent Care" section of this site. While the twitching could be nothing, it could also be something deadly. My turtle started twitching while basking and within a four day period it got worse and she started having vision problems. Took her to the vet and it turns out she had eaten something metal, which gave her lead poisoning. The twitching was a neurological issue cause by the lead poisoning. Her vision was also affected by this. She had to get emergency surgery to the the metal piece out of her intestines and she had to be treated for the lead poisoning. I was fortunate that we took her to the vet and had x-rays taken when we did or she would have died a very painful death.

Again, while the twitching could be nothing, it is not a normal behavior for a turtle. Best thing to do is to take it to a vet. Better to be safe than sorry.
