I studied red eared sliders in my biology course. It was interesting to say the least, but horrible as I had to dissect one. I found tumors on her pancreas, so her death saved her from a life full of pain and suffering.

Frankly speaking I thought there woould be more bones in the turtle's body.

I thought there would be more bones, too. I've seen cartoon turtles pop out of their shells (Take Verne from Over the Hedge, for example), so I would thought that for some turtles, their shells look like they'd be easy to remove but nope. Their shells are apparently part of their anatomy; their spine is connected to the shell from the looks of it.

i think i read somewhere that the turtle has a tympanic membrane.

I've been eyeing this thread for ages and finally got the nerve to click the graphic pictures (the first bunch, anyway).
I wasn't as horrified as I had anticipated.
