mine lasts about 4 hours :P , but I don't need the back up battery because the manager of FPL lives in my complex. I think our neighborhood was the 2% of people with power in Broward :D
-Shady: 3" RES; 1 year old
-Scooby: 1.5" RES;
-Bubbles: 1" RES
-Tipper: 4 year old Rat Terrier

I live in Florida, too. The area I live in is very rural and our power goes out if there's even a bad thunderstorm. I bought a batery powered heater (as someone already suggested) and it works well. Also, it has been prety cold here! But I havn't had a problem with the temp being low.

My turtles were in the tank for about a week because of the cold weather. But now they are back in the pond
